Why is it important to have the steroid injection under ultrasound guidance?
Steroids can cause potential harm to the joint and to the surrounding soft tissues if it is not delivered appropriately. The ultrasound scan helps to identify the exact location of the inflammation or problem within the joint. Therefore, using ultrasound guidance when injecting joints and soft tissues minimizes the risks of possible side effects, such as depigmentation and fat atrophy. Evidence suggests that ultrasound guided steroid injections are more accurate than landmark guided/blind injections.
When do I need to pay?
We accept cash, card, or cheque payment on the day of the consultation.
How long will the procedure take?
30-40 minutes.
Do we accept private medical insurance?
Unfortunately, we do not accept any form of insurance. However, our prices are competitive with other private healthcare clinics and our services are unique; the patient can receive a thorough examination, diagnostic scan, and an individualized treatment plan in one visit, without the need to pay for repeat consultation appointments.
Is there a cancellation fee?
Please cancel your appointment at least 24 hours prior to avoid a £50.00 administration fee.
Will the injection help me?
Research shows that there is a 90% chance that the injection/s will help to settle down any pain and inflammation that you may be experiencing. Having your injection performed under ultrasound guidance helps to improve the efficacy of your treatment. However, we cannot guarantee that ultrasound guided injection/s will improve your symptoms. If this is the case, further tests and a different method of treatment may be necessary.
How long before I feel the benefits of my injection?
This can vary between each individual and can be affected by a number of factors, including your individual condition and lifestyle. However, it commonly takes between 48 hours and one week before you may feel the benefits of the steroid injection.
How many injections can I have?
Usually, one injection is sufficient, but if the pain is severe or consistent over a long period of time, you may require more.
It is important to note that you cannot have more than 3 steroid injections per part of the body, per year.
