PRIVATE ULTRASOUND SCAN

£300 – £500

Krida Harley Street offers ultrasound guided steroid injections, also known as cortisone injections. These injections are offered to people who are suffering from different musculoskeletal conditions and sports related injuries.

Many benefit from an ultrasound guided steroid injection if they have been suffering from long term conditions, such as arthritis in different joints or soft tissue problems, including a frozen shoulder, plantar fasciitis and carpal tunnel.

Before the procedure, you will have a clinical discussion with the consultant about the benefits and possible complications of the injection. The consultant will then ask you to sign the informed consent form before performing the injections.

During the procedure, local anaesthetic will be administered to numb the affected area before performing the injection under ultrasound guidance.

Following the procedure, you will be given a detailed post-procedure care advice leaflet and will have the opportunity to ask the consultant any questions that you may have about the procedure or post-procedure care.

You will be advised to wait 15-20 minutes before you leave.

Within a week you will receive a report regarding the consultation, diagnostic ultrasound scan and about the procedure.

Many of our procedures can be diagnosed and performed in one session. In order to explain your specific condition, please book an initial free consultation and we will discuss your options with you on the phone.

HOW DOES THE APPOINTMENT WORK?

4. Treatment Plan

5. Ultrasound Guided Injection (if appropriate)

FAQS

Do I need GP referral?
No, a GP referral is not necessary for you to have an ultrasound guided steroid/cortisone injection at Krida Clinic.

Do I need to fast before the procedure?
No, it is not necessary to fast before the procedure. We advise eating and drinking as normal before attending the clinic.

Do I need to bring anyone with me?
If you are having treatment at the clinic, we do advise that you bring a close friend or family member with you to ensure that you get home safely.

What clothing should I wear to my consultation?
We advise that you wear clothing that makes the affected joint/body area accessible to the consultant. For example, if your symptoms affect a lower limb, we would suggest wearing (or bringing) a skirt/shorts to the clinic.

Do I need to revisit the clinic for any follow-up appointments?
We do not routinely offer our patients follow-up appointments as it is generally not needed.

Are there any times when I cannot have an injection?
Yes, if you:

  • Are suffering from an infection
  • Are allergic to local anesthetic or steroids
  • Feel unwell
  • Are due to have surgery in the area soon
  • Are not certain about having the injection

Can you access my previous medical history?
We cannot access any of your previous medical histories. In light of this, we encourage you to bring a list of any medication that you are currently taking or regularly prescribed.

Why is it important to have the steroid injection under ultrasound guidance?
Steroids can cause potential harm to the joint and to the surrounding soft tissues if it is not delivered appropriately. The ultrasound scan helps to identify the exact location of the inflammation or problem within the joint. Therefore, using ultrasound guidance when injecting joints and soft tissues minimizes the risks of possible side effects, such as depigmentation and fat atrophy. Evidence suggests that ultrasound guided steroid injections are more accurate than landmark guided/blind injections.

When do I need to pay?
We accept cash, card, or cheque payment on the day of the consultation.

How long will the procedure take?
30-40 minutes.

Do we accept private medical insurance?
Unfortunately, we do not accept any form of insurance. However, our prices are competitive with other private healthcare clinics and our services are unique; the patient can receive a thorough examination, diagnostic scan, and an individualized treatment plan in one visit, without the need to pay for repeat consultation appointments.

Is there a cancellation fee?
Please cancel your appointment at least 24 hours prior to avoid a £50.00 administration fee.

Will the injection help me?
Research shows that there is a 90% chance that the injection/s will help to settle down any pain and inflammation that you may be experiencing. Having your injection performed under ultrasound guidance helps to improve the efficacy of your treatment. However, we cannot guarantee that ultrasound guided injection/s will improve your symptoms. If this is the case, further tests and a different method of treatment may be necessary.

How long before I feel the benefits of my injection?
This can vary between each individual and can be affected by a number of factors, including your individual condition and lifestyle. However, it commonly takes between 48 hours and one week before you may feel the benefits of the steroid injection.

How many injections can I have?
Usually, one injection is sufficient, but if the pain is severe or consistent over a long period of time, you may require more.

It is important to note that you cannot have more than 3 steroid injections per part of the body, per year.
